About Topical Expert Meetings

The IEA Wind Task 11 gathers experts to present the latest results on narrow topics and discuss solutions in a small group setting.

The Topical Expert Meetings (TEM) organized in the frame of Task 11 play an important role since they aim to begin the conversation about new technical and scientific developments and information needs. Task 11 is also an important catalyst for starting new research tasks within IEA Wind. It is frequent that after a TEM, an ad hoc working group will write a proposal to begin a new research task. Most research activities of IEA Wind began with a TEM.

Four TEMs per year are organized under Task 11. The Operating Agent (OA) solicits topics for future meetings that are presented and validated during one of the biannual ExCo meetings. A host country and organization is identified and an expert writes an introductory note that is sent out with the meeting invitation. The invitation process is coordinated by Task 11 OA. Task 11 participants as well as the host select institutions and experts that will receive an invitation to the meeting. All attendees are expected to give presentations that contribute to the meetings.

The OA moderates the meeting and assembles the proceedings. During one year, the proceedings are only available for Task 11 participating countries. After that, they are posted on the public online library. It is responsibility of the participants to distribute the information generated through the Task to the research centers, universities, manufactures, promoters, and all the institutions participating in the development of the wind energy sector in their countries.
